Practicum in Sterilization and Disinfection
Under the esteemed leadership of our Managing Director, Mr. Ommshravanna, JKKN Dental College and Hospitals recently embarked on a remarkable journey of skill enhancement and professional development. The initiative, titled “Practicum in Sterilisation and Disinfection,” was a two-day extensive training program aimed at empowering our non-teaching staff, encompassing both clinical and non-clinical members.
Held on the 9th and 10th of January 2024, the program was meticulously planned and executed by the Department of Microbiology, led by the insightful Dr. Jyotica Ahluwalia, MD, along with her adept team members, Mr. Paneerselvam and Mrs. Karkuzhali. The event was a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical expertise, focusing on the critical aspects of sterilization and disinfection—a cornerstone in maintaining a hygienic and safe healthcare environment.
Engaging Learning Experience
The sessions were more than just lectures; they were interactive and hands-on experiences. The participants, including clinical assistants and housekeeping staff, were not merely passive listeners but active learners. They were encouraged to dive deep into the subject matter through brainstorming sessions, where they offered valuable suggestions and feedback, creatively expressed through sticky notes on the working chart of the program.
A unique highlight of the program was the live demonstration of pathogens, a vital topic in understanding the spread of diseases. Using microscopes, a team of microbiologists brought these invisible threats to life, offering a tangible perspective on the importance of proper sterilization procedures.
Practical Demonstrations and Insights
The learning journey extended beyond the confines of a classroom setting. Participants were taken on a tour of the clinical departments within our dental hospitals, including the Departments of Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery, and Prosthodontics. Here, they witnessed firsthand the various sterilization equipment and techniques, learning about the usage of chemical disinfectants, the proper method of donning PPE and surgical gloves, and the preparation of operation theatres for surgical procedures. Such practical insights are invaluable in fostering a thorough understanding of the subject.
Distinguished Leadership and Enthusiastic Participation
The program was graced by the presence and guidance of our respected principal, Dr. Elanchezhiyan, MDS, and efficiently guided by Mr. Suresh, the Manager of JKKNDCH. The faculty welfare team, consisting of Dr. C. Dhinesh Kumar, MDS, Dr. Saranya, MDS, and Dr. Linda Christabel, MDS, played a pivotal role in organizing this enlightening event.
The enthusiasm and eagerness to learn displayed by the participants were palpable. Their motivation to apply these learnings in practice is a testament to the success of the program. It’s inspiring to see our team members committed to providing a safe, hygienic, and sterile environment at JKKN hospital campus.
In conclusion, the “Practicum in Sterilization and Disinfection” program was not just an educational endeavor but a step towards building a more knowledgeable, skilled, and conscientious workforce at JKKN Dental College and Hospitals. We look forward to more such initiatives that not only enhance professional skills but also contribute to the overall betterment of our healthcare services.
