Position Overview
JKKN Dental College & Hospital invites applications for the position of Professor – Periodontics.
The Professor will provide academic, clinical, research, and professional leadership in Periodontics, contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education, advanced periodontal care, research, faculty development, student mentoring, and departmental growth.
The position is intended for an experienced academic and clinical professional with a strong record in teaching, research publications, scientific presentations, postgraduate guidance, academic leadership, and professional engagement at national and international levels.
The selected candidate will be expected to contribute significantly to strengthening the department's academic reputation, research output, clinical capabilities, and international academic collaborations.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic & Teaching Leadership
Lead and deliver high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Periodontics.
Conduct advanced lectures, seminars, case discussions, clinical demonstrations, journal clubs, workshops, and interactive learning sessions.
Integrate current evidence, emerging periodontal therapies, digital technologies, and contemporary clinical practices into teaching.
Strengthen students' understanding of periodontal diagnosis, treatment planning, non-surgical and surgical periodontal therapy, maintenance, and interdisciplinary management.
Promote case-based, evidence-based, technology-enabled, and clinically oriented learning.
Develop and update academic content, clinical protocols, teaching resources, assessment methods, and digital learning materials.
Participate in curriculum development and academic quality enhancement.
2. Clinical Responsibilities
Provide and supervise comprehensive periodontal diagnosis and treatment.
Guide students and postgraduate trainees in the management of complex periodontal cases.
Supervise procedures such as:
Non-surgical periodontal therapy
Periodontal surgery
Regenerative periodontal procedures
Mucogingival and periodontal plastic procedures
Implant-related periodontal management
Maintenance and supportive periodontal therapy
Management of medically compromised periodontal patients
Promote appropriate use of digital diagnostic and clinical technologies.
Encourage interdisciplinary management involving Prosthodontics, Oral Surgery, Conservative Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral Medicine, and other relevant specialties.
Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, patient safety, infection control, documentation, and ethical standards.
3. Research & Publications
The Professor is expected to make a substantial contribution to the research profile of the department and institution.
Responsibilities include:
Develop and lead research projects in Periodontics and related interdisciplinary areas.
Publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
Demonstrate an active publication record, with preference for publications indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed/Medline, or other recognized academic databases, as applicable to the field.
Contribute to increasing the department's research visibility through quality publications rather than publication volume alone.
Encourage faculty and postgraduate students to convert research projects and dissertations into peer-reviewed publications.
Guide students and researchers in research methodology, scientific writing, data interpretation, manuscript preparation, and publication processes.
Participate in collaborative and multidisciplinary research projects.

4. Research Impact & Academic Profile

Presenting research at international conferences and scientific meetings.
Participating in overseas academic conferences, workshops, symposiums, and continuing professional education programmes.
Delivering invited lectures or scientific presentations at recognized international institutions or professional forums.
Establishing academic and research collaborations with reputed overseas universities, dental institutions, research centres, and professional organizations.
Exploring opportunities for international faculty exchange, collaborative research, joint publications, and academic partnerships.
Bringing relevant global developments in Periodontics into JKKN's academic and clinical environment.
6. Postgraduate Guidance & Mentoring
Guide and mentor postgraduate students in Periodontics.
Supervise postgraduate dissertations and research projects in accordance with applicable academic and regulatory requirements.
Support students in research methodology, literature review, study design, data analysis, scientific writing, and publication.
Mentor students for national and international conferences, paper presentations, poster presentations, competitions, and academic forums.
Encourage postgraduate students to develop strong clinical reasoning, research capability, academic communication, and professional confidence.
Mentor junior faculty members in teaching, research, clinical practice, publications, and career development.
7. Faculty Mentoring & Academic Leadership
Mentor faculty members within the department.
Support junior faculty in developing research proposals, manuscripts, presentations, and academic portfolios.
Promote a culture of research, continuous learning, collaboration, and academic integrity.
Conduct or facilitate faculty development programmes, journal clubs, clinical update sessions, workshops, and research discussions.
Encourage interdisciplinary and collaborative academic initiatives.
8. AI, Digital Dentistry & Emerging Technologies
As part of JKKN's AI-empowered academic ecosystem, the Professor is expected to explore meaningful applications of emerging technologies in Periodontics.
This may include:
AI-assisted periodontal diagnosis and risk assessment
Digital periodontal charting and analysis
Digital imaging and image-assisted diagnosis
Digital treatment planning
AI-assisted research and literature analysis
Data analytics for periodontal outcomes
Digital patient records and clinical documentation
Emerging technologies in implant and regenerative dentistry
Technology-supported postgraduate teaching and clinical case discussions
AI tools must be used responsibly, with clinical judgement, scientific evidence, patient confidentiality, professional ethics, and academic integrity remaining paramount.
9. Academic Conferences & Professional Engagement
Participate actively in national and international professional conferences.
Present research papers, posters, clinical innovations, and academic work.
Deliver invited lectures, keynote sessions, workshops, or continuing dental education programmes where invited.
Maintain active professional engagement with recognized periodontal and dental associations.
Encourage faculty and students to participate in professional academic forums.
10. Departmental Development & Institutional Leadership
Support the Head of Department in strategic academic and clinical planning.
Contribute to the development of advanced periodontal clinical services and postgraduate facilities.
Strengthen departmental research infrastructure and academic resources.
Support accreditation, quality assurance, academic audits, and institutional ranking initiatives.
Contribute to institutional research targets, publication strategy, innovation initiatives, and academic collaborations.
Develop SOPs, clinical protocols, academic guidelines, and quality-improvement initiatives where required.
Represent the department in institutional academic and professional committees.
Educational Qualification
MDS in Periodontics from a recognized institution.
Valid registration with the appropriate Dental Council/State Dental Council, as applicable.
Ph.D./additional doctoral-level research qualification, where applicable, will be an advantage.
Additional qualifications in research methodology, healthcare education, digital dentistry, implantology, or related areas will be advantageous.
Experience
Significant teaching and clinical experience in Periodontics.
Demonstrated experience in undergraduate and postgraduate dental education.
Strong experience in postgraduate guidance and mentoring.
Experience in research, scientific publications, academic presentations, and departmental responsibilities.
Experience in research collaboration, conference participation, and academic leadership preferred.

Compensation
Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, academic experience, clinical expertise, research profile, publication record, research impact, postgraduate guidance experience, international academic exposure, and institutional norms. Salary will not be a limiting factor for the right candidate.
