Best MDS colleges in Tamil Nadu — what the NIRF 2025 ranking says
No published source ranks MDS programmes. NIRF, the Ministry of Education’s national framework, ranks the dental institution as a whole and only those that take part in it. Its 2025 dental ranking places 9 Tamil Nadu institutions in the national top 40, listed below in NIRF order. Most are deemed-to-be universities, which is why they are not in the affiliated table on this page, and JKKN is not in the 2025 list. For an MDS candidate the comparable figures are the ones above: seats in the speciality you want, government or self-financing, and location.

How do I choose between MDS colleges in Tamil Nadu?
Start with the speciality you want, because not every college offers all nine. Then check seat count in that speciality, whether the seat is government or management quota, the distance from home for a three-year full-time course, and the patient load of the attached teaching hospital, since MDS is a clinical degree.
Which are the best or top MDS colleges in Tamil Nadu?
No published source ranks MDS programmes. The only published ranking of dental institutions is NIRF, the Ministry of Education’s national framework, and it ranks the institution as a whole, not its MDS course. Its 2025 dental ranking places nine Tamil Nadu institutions in the national top 40: Saveetha (2), SRM Dental College (8), Sri Ramachandra (13), Amrita Coimbatore (14), Meenakshi (16), Sree Balaji (27), Dr. M.G.R. Educational and Research Institute (30), Chettinad (32) and SRM Kattankulathur (39). Most are deemed-to-be universities, which is why they are not in the affiliated table on this page, and JKKN is not in the 2025 list. What is comparable for an MDS candidate is sourced and on this page: how many seats a college holds in the speciality you want, whether it is government or self-financing, and where it is.
