Job Purpose

We are seeking an accomplished and learner-focused Professor of Pharmacology to provide academic leadership in Pharmacology education for dental students and to facilitate the integration of pharmacological knowledge with clinical dental practice.

The Professor will be responsible for delivering high-quality, application-oriented learning; mentoring faculty and students; promoting research and innovation; and strengthening the connection between pharmacology, therapeutics, oral healthcare, and patient safety.

As part of JKKN's AI-Empowered Institution, the Professor is also expected to encourage responsible use of AI and digital learning solutions to enhance teaching, research, assessment, and academic productivity.

Key Responsibilities

1. Academic Leadership & Teaching

• Lead and facilitate Pharmacology education for BDS students in accordance with the prescribed curriculum and applicable regulatory requirements.

• Deliver engaging, clinically relevant, and outcome-based teaching.

• Relate pharmacological concepts to common dental procedures and clinical situations.

• Develop and review lesson plans, learning resources, assessments, and academic activities.

• Encourage critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and evidence-based learning.

2. Dental & Clinical Application of Pharmacology

• Help students understand the rational use of medicines in dental practice.

• Relate pharmacology to areas such as:

  • Local anaesthetics

  • Analgesics and anti-inflammatory drugs

  • Antimicrobials

  • Drugs used in oral and maxillofacial conditions

  • Emergency drugs in dental practice

  • Drug interactions and adverse drug reactions

  • Prescription writing and medication safety

  • Pharmacological considerations in medically compromised dental patients

• Promote awareness of safe, effective, and responsible prescribing practices.

3. AI-Enabled Learning

• Integrate appropriate AI and digital tools into Pharmacology teaching and learning.

• Develop AI-assisted learning resources, clinical case discussions, quizzes, simulations, and revision materials.

• Guide students in responsible use of AI for academic learning and research.

• Encourage students to critically evaluate AI-generated pharmacological information against authentic scientific and clinical sources.

4. Student Mentoring

• Mentor undergraduate students in academic development and professional growth.

• Guide students in case-based learning, seminars, presentations, assignments, and research activities.

• Identify students requiring academic support and facilitate appropriate interventions.

• Encourage participation in academic competitions, conferences, research activities, and innovation initiatives.

5. Research & Innovation

• Lead and participate in research activities in Pharmacology and interdisciplinary areas.

• Promote research related to dental pharmacology, therapeutics, drug safety, antimicrobial resistance, pharmacovigilance, and other relevant areas.

• Publish research in reputed journals and present findings at conferences.

• Guide postgraduate/undergraduate research projects as applicable.

• Encourage collaborations with dental, medical, pharmaceutical, and allied health disciplines.

• Contribute to patents, funded research, consultancy, and other academic innovations where appropriate.

6. Faculty Development & Academic Mentoring

• Mentor junior faculty members in teaching, assessment, research, and academic development.

• Facilitate faculty development activities and sharing of best academic practices.

• Encourage adoption of innovative teaching methodologies and technology-enabled learning.

• Support continuous improvement of departmental academic standards.

7. Academic Administration & Quality

• Participate in departmental academic planning and curriculum review.

• Ensure effective implementation of academic schedules and assessment processes.

• Maintain and review course files, academic records, examination documentation, and other required reports.

• Contribute to accreditation, quality assurance, academic audits, and institutional development activities.

• Support the Head of the Department and institutional leadership in academic decision-making.

Qualification & Experience

• M.D./DNB in Pharmacology or qualification as prescribed by the applicable regulatory and institutional norms.

• Should meet the applicable Professor-level teaching and experience requirements of the relevant regulatory authority.

• Demonstrated experience in undergraduate dental/medical Pharmacology teaching will be preferred.

• Research publications and academic contributions appropriate to the level of Professor will be an advantage.
