Position Overview
The Reader / Senior Lecturer will contribute to undergraduate teaching, clinical and community-based training, research, student mentoring, and departmental academic activities in Public Health Dentistry.
The role requires a faculty member with strong knowledge of preventive and community dentistry, public health programmes, epidemiology, research methodology, dental public health practice, and evidence-based approaches to oral healthcare.
The selected candidate is expected to contribute to the department's academic and research profile through quality publications, scientific presentations, student guidance, faculty collaboration, and professional engagement at national and international levels.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic & Teaching Responsibilities
Deliver undergraduate teaching in Public Health Dentistry as per the prescribed curriculum.
Conduct lectures, seminars, tutorials, case discussions, practical sessions, demonstrations, and community-based learning activities.
Teach dental public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, preventive dentistry, health promotion, health education, and community oral healthcare.
Connect theoretical learning with field-based experiences, community surveys, school dental health programmes, and outreach activities.
Develop lesson plans, learning resources, assignments, question banks, and competency-based assessments.
Support curriculum development and academic quality improvement.
2. Clinical & Community-Based Responsibilities
Supervise students during community dental health programmes, outreach camps, field visits, and clinical postings.
Guide students in oral health surveys, screening, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Promote preventive and promotive oral healthcare practices among communities.
Participate in planning and evaluating school oral health programmes, rural and urban outreach activities, and public health initiatives.
Ensure appropriate documentation, ethical conduct, infection control, and patient safety during community activities.
Encourage evidence-based approaches to community oral health needs and service delivery.
3. Research & Publications
Undertake and contribute to research in Public Health Dentistry, oral epidemiology, preventive dentistry, community oral health, health systems, and related interdisciplinary areas.
Publish quality research in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
Demonstrate a research profile with publications indexed in Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed/Medline, or other recognized databases, as relevant.
Guide students and junior faculty in research methodology, study design, data collection, statistical analysis, manuscript preparation, and publication.
Encourage conversion of student projects, dissertations, and field studies into quality research publications.
Participate in collaborative research, funded projects, and interdisciplinary academic initiatives.
Maintain research integrity and follow accepted ethical standards in research and publication.
4. Research Impact & Academic Visibility
The candidate is expected to contribute to the department's research visibility through:
Quality peer-reviewed publications.
Scopus-indexed and other recognized indexed publications.
Citation profile and research impact indicators, including h-index where applicable.
Research presentations at national and international conferences.

Research metrics will be considered alongside the quality, relevance, integrity, authorship contribution, and academic significance of the work. Metrics will not be treated as standalone measures of academic merit.
5. International Exposure & Conference Participation
Present research papers, posters, and scientific work at reputed national and international conferences.
Participate in overseas conferences, academic workshops, symposiums, and continuing professional development programmes.
Establish and contribute to academic and research collaborations with international universities, dental institutions, and public health organizations.
Participate in invited lectures, faculty exchange, joint research, and collaborative publications where opportunities arise.
Bring relevant global developments in public health dentistry into the academic and community outreach environment of JKKN.
6. Student Guidance & Mentoring
Guide and mentor undergraduate students in research projects, community surveys, case presentations, and academic activities.
Support students in developing research skills, critical thinking, scientific writing, presentation skills, and professional confidence.
Mentor students for paper presentations, poster presentations, conferences, competitions, and professional forums.
Identify students requiring academic support and provide appropriate guidance.
Encourage student participation in community service, preventive oral health initiatives, and research activities.
7. Faculty Mentoring & Academic Contribution
Mentor junior faculty in teaching methods, research planning, scientific writing, publications, and professional development.
Support collaborative research and departmental academic initiatives.
Participate in faculty development programmes, journal clubs, workshops, and academic review activities.
Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, research integrity, and evidence-based education.
8. AI-Enabled & Digital Academic Responsibilities
As part of JKKN's AI-empowered academic ecosystem, the faculty member is expected to explore appropriate applications of AI and digital tools in Public Health Dentistry, including:
Digital data collection and analysis for oral health surveys.
AI-supported learning resources and case-based teaching.
Digital epidemiology and public health data interpretation.
AI-assisted literature exploration and research support.
Digital platforms for community health education and awareness.
Data-driven evaluation of oral health programmes.
All AI-assisted outputs must be critically verified. Patient confidentiality, research ethics, academic integrity, and professional judgement must be maintained.
9. Professional Development – Nobel Fellow Program
Willingness to participate in the Nobel Fellow Program in Implant & Esthetic Dentistry, subject to eligibility, institutional approval, and programme availability.
Interest in interdisciplinary learning connecting public health, preventive dentistry, implant and esthetic dental care, and emerging clinical practices.
Ability to share relevant learning from professional development programmes through academic discussions, workshops, student mentoring, or departmental activities.
Note: The programme's official name, eligibility, awarding organization, and credential status should be confirmed before being presented as a formal qualification or institutional requirement.
10. Departmental & Institutional Responsibilities
Support the Head of Department in academic planning, curriculum implementation, and departmental development.
Participate in community outreach planning, institutional programmes, accreditation activities, and quality assurance initiatives.
Maintain academic, research, clinical, and community programme documentation.
Contribute to departmental audits, institutional reporting, and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with other dental departments and institutional units to strengthen interdisciplinary education and community engagement.
Educational Qualifications
BDS from a recognized institution.
MDS in Public Health Dentistry from a recognized institution.
Valid registration with the appropriate Dental Council / State Dental Council, as applicable.
Additional qualifications in public health, epidemiology, research methodology, biostatistics, health professions education, or related areas will be an advantage.
Experience
Reader
Relevant teaching experience in Public Health Dentistry in a recognized dental institution, meeting applicable regulatory requirements for the position.
Demonstrated experience in undergraduate teaching, community-based training, research, and student guidance.
Experience in academic coordination, research supervision, and departmental responsibilities preferred.
Senior Lecturer
Relevant teaching and/or clinical experience in Public Health Dentistry, as applicable to regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated ability to deliver undergraduate teaching and supervise community-based learning activities.
Experience in research, student mentoring, academic assessment, and community outreach preferred.
All appointments and designations shall be subject to the applicable Dental Council of India / National Dental Commission regulations and institutional requirements in force at the time of recruitment.
