Orthodontics comes from the Greek word “orthos” meaning correct or straight ”dontos” meaning teeth. It is a specialized branch of dentistry concerned with the development and management of deviations from normal position of the teeth, jaws and face (malocclusions).
The main aim of orthodontic care is to produce a healthy functional bite, creating greater resistance to disease and improving personal appearance thus contribute to the mental as well as physical well being of the individual.
The department of orthodontics actively involved in all three major areas of academic activities, Teaching and Research and Service. It is having excellent infrastructure with separate PG and UG sections, sterilization room, plaster room, photographic room and also special clinic. It is also well equipped with all ultramodern instruments. Various orthodontic procedures are offered like removable appliances, fixed appliances (MBT, Roth, Ceramic brackets, self Ligating brackets and lingual orthodontics) Myofunctional appliances and surgical orthodontics.
The department provides basic and advance education to the students to equip them with adequate skill, attitude and values required in this field .The clinical practice and research taking place here is at par with the latest advancement in the field of orthodontics world over.
