Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology represents the dental specialty that identifies and manages diseases affecting the oral and maxillofacial regions and investigates the causes, processes and effects of these diseases. Our clinical practitioners, researchers, educators and microscopic diagnosticians collaborate with other dental and medical professionals to advance oral health care.
Basis of good clinical dentistry is dependent on the sound knowledge of Dental anatomy and histology. Oral and maxillofacial pathology is a recognized specialty which deals with the investigation and diagnosis of a wide spectrum of diseases in the head, face, jaws, hard and soft tissues of the oral cavity based on histology. It forms a bridge between the diagnosis of disease and treatment modalities. It guides the clinician to plan and undertake effective treatment for the benefit of the patients.
The department of Oral pathology in JKKNDCH was established in the year 1987. It specializes in dental anatomy, histology, embryology, microbiology, forensic odontology and pathology.
The Department is well supported by a professor, Reader , three senior lecturers and one tutor as teaching staff, two technicians and an attender as non-teaching staff. The staffs are highly qualified, experienced and ever enthusiastic to train & guide the undergraduates and post graduate students.
As well said by William Osler “As is your pathology so is your practice”. One cannot become a competent physician or surgeon without full knowledge of pathology.
